Street Magic Revealed
As the world becomes more a more jaded and cynical about life in general, that viewpoint is carried over into the world of magic and making it a difficult process for new magicians to break into the field and establish themselves with an aura of credibility. And the crowds are just not responding the way they did in the past to the more casual magicians; until street magic revealed to the world just how much magic was still around and gaining a comeback.
A revival in magic is underway, and with such magicians as David Blaine and his street magic shows, street magic revealed to the masses just how well received good magic is; almost to the point of popularity as in the days of Harry Houdini when everything seemed possible in magic.
So, as it happened, street magic revealed to the world that magic was alive and well and it still held an atmosphere of mystery about it. Some things that were held secret and sacred had survived even through the years of all the shows that revealed the inner workings of many of the old established tricks that removed any mystery remaining, had done their damage to the craft. Even after all that debacle, street magic revealed to us that the tenets of magic were alive and well and making a comeback.
So with the revived popularity of street magic, newer generations of kids are seeing the fun and mysterious side of magic once more, and are finding out that magic is fun as well as being a serious craft.
But make no mistake, just because you can go to the corner shop an buy a magic trick or two to wow your friends, doesn't mean you are anywhere near being a magician. You will need to practice diligently a lot before that happens, and you will need to master "real" magic tricks, not just the already made ones found packaged in the store.
One good feature about all this was, when street magic revealed another world for kids to tune into and get involved with, the majority of parents were glad that their kids were doing something that was fun and wholesome for a change. But don't forget, there are many sides to street magic that are never seen on the TV screen, and this is a factor that parents should always keep in mind.
Even as wholesome as street magic can be, folks especially younger kids, can get into trouble doing it if they are not careful. For one thing, if they are underage, they need to be watched closely; and you may find that in spite of its name, street magic cannot be performed on the streets that readily. In some areas, the city or county requires that you have to have a permit to perform.
And it goes without saying that street magic should be done in a safe neighborhood or a safe place. When all is said and done, street magic revealed the rekindled interest and joy in true magic in our lives and now it is up to us to keep the feeling going on in a safe and constructive way.
