Magic Trick Exposed
When the fad of exposing magic tricks began a while ago, not all magicians were very cool about having their trade secrets laid out so that the whole universe could see just how they performed their tricks. They couldn't fight back very effectively and the public at that time, thought doing this was the greatest and couldn't get enough of it. With each magic trick exposed, there were more people becoming aware of what was happening and began to tune in to the ins and outs of doing the magic tricks.
As a result of all this hoopla involving magic tricks, the number of people who wanted to know about it grew steadily and folks were now learning magic as well as watching it. In spite of the squawking that a lot of amateur magicians did when their secrets were out of the bag...they wanted them to remain secret...if you look closely, the magicians who had made a real name for themselves and were more well known, didn't really react very much at all.
There were two reasons that this happened with the more established magicians. One reason was that a lot of people who would probably never looked twice at a magic trick or a show, were now tuning in in droves, watching the magic trick exposed for all to see and then leaving it in the dust for the public masses to pull apart.
Now for the second reason; many a magic trick exposed on these newfangled shows had been laid wide open by other magicians. One of the most famous who did such a thing was Harry Houdini. He took many a magic trick exposed it and kept on going to new pinnacles in his career.
Why would someone like Houdini do such a thing; exposing the very workings of the tricks that provided his bread and butter. The reason was that it brought in more and more people who were interested in magic and would watch his shows. Lots of folks came for the very reason that they wanted to expose the magician himself as not being up to snuff, and because they knew how the trick was supposed to work that he was performing, they measured how good his performance was by how well he could keep them spellbound.
So, the way to rise above all this; having a magic trick exposed, is to be better and better with each successive performance. The audience is all there armed with their newly won ammunition of knowing how the trick works, and they want to see if you can pull it off without them seeing you do it. They know that it takes machinery and some tools to do what you do, but if they can't see you use them and don't know how you got to point B from point A without them seeing the mechanics at all, then you have won their admiration and awe because you pulled it off right under their noses without a hitch while they watched with eyes wide open looking for the slightest giveaway.
Because of your expert ability to pull off the stunt without them seeing how you did it, will give them a renewed respect for you and they will walk away doubly impressed with your skills. When the audience can see how you are pulling off the trick and actually sees you use the mechanics, that's when they turn on you and you will be blackballed.
So remember; if a magician can pull off a superb performance even with the magic trick exposed, and is confident in his skills and stage presence, he can entertain his audience and keep them in the palm of his hand. And they will return the favor by giving him rave revues.
One thing is certain and it's this; the list of magicians who have had a magic trick exposed keeps getting longer all the time, and this is not something that was unexpected. Just go with the flow and accept the fact that it is the nature of things in this world, and you can rise above it if you know how.
